This extraordinary Jianzhan tea bowl by 朱信丛 (Zhū Xìn Cóng) of 朱哥建盏 displays one of the rarest and most dramatic glaze effects in the JianZhan canon — a deep black-brown ground fractured into large, luminous golden crackle cells, each one irregular and organic, like the scales of an ancient tortoise or the petals of a flower frozen in amber.

This glaze phenomenon is notoriously difficult to achieve. The crackle must form spontaneously in the kiln, the gold emerging from the iron-rich clay as temperatures peak and fall. No two pieces crack the same way. This is a once-in-a-firing event — and it shows.
