This rounded Jianzhan tea bowl by 朱信丛 (Zhū Xìn Cóng) of 朱哥建盏 achieves its beauty through restraint. The body is a deep, lustrous black — the 乌金釉 (wūjīn yòu) glaze absorbing light with a quiet authority — while the rim carries a warm amber-brown edge where the glaze thins and the iron reacts differently in the kiln’s final heat. The contrast is subtle but arresting: pure black below, warm amber at the lip.

This natural rim effect, known as 金口 (jīn kǒu) or 金边 — gold edge — is considered auspicious and is among the most admired finishing details in Jianzhan appreciation. It cannot be applied; it must emerge from the firing itself.
