This exceptional piece departs from the classic tea bowl form entirely — a wide-shouldered, bulbous jar with an inward-curving rim, its silhouette reminiscent of ancient bronze ritual vessels. The glaze is a dramatic tortoiseshell — large amber and rust patches bloom across a deep mirror-black ground, each one irregular, warm, and alive.

Look deeper into the interior and a hand-painted white phoenix emerges at the centre — rising from the black ground, wings outspread, rendered in fine white slip against the dark glaze. A hidden image revealed only to those who hold the piece and look within. The effect is ancient and immediate at once.

The piece is the work of master craftsman 谢松青, whose certificate and seal accompany this work, presented in a traditional silver silk brocade gift box. A work of museum quality.
